"Don't Lighten Up, Tighten Up!"
Remember a couple of months ago I wrote a post about the ex-pimp that has written a relationship advice book for women (see "Pimps Down, Hos Up???"). Well I read the book. Um...I think I might be a little too young to really appreciate his advice. The book was definitely interesting and thought-provoking, but I don't think I'm his intended audience. But don't let me discourage you, go ahead and check it out yourself.

P.S. The title of this post is one of Big Boom's favorite and most used quotes (and I kinda like it too)!

I Choose Me!
NOTE: THIS POST IS FOR THE LADIES!
I was on my way to work this morning, listening to The Steve Harvey Morning Show (yes it's every morning routine) and Me by Tamia came on. Now this was not my first time hearing the song, but it was my first time listening the song. IT IS SO POWERFUL!!! It's basically about a woman saying, I can no longer put you (a man) before me. The most powerful and profound statement in the song is: "If I have to choose, I choose me!"
No matter how strong we are, we all need a little reminder that no matter how great he is or how much he loves you, YOU HAVE TO CHOOSE YOURSELF! I'm sure we have all been in a relationship/situation where we start doing things that we wouldn't usually do, you step back to assess the situation and realize you've become that "I'll-do-anything-for-my-man-no-matter-how-foolish-I-look" type of woman that you pity and vowed never to become (it's nothing to be ashamed of, it happens to the best of us). But at that moment in time you need/must/have to remember to CHOOSE YOU!
Keep in mind that "choosing you" might mean leaving him! All relationships do not mean forever. But there is a purpose for everything (rememer the old saying "reason, season, or lifetime"). So if you must leave that relationship, make sure you take with you GOD's lesson and remember it always.
Thank you Ms. Tamia for reminding us of our self-worth! And ladies next time you start loosing yourself in your relationship, remember the lyrics of this song:
-verse-
Love was a former owner, but quiet is renting our house
It seizes my lips from speaking, but forms a sarcastic smile
Suspense now raised one of your eyebrowes
You ask me if there's someone elseI replied yes, hell yes
You asked me if it's another man, I say no
You laughed and say is it a woman, I say yeah
Surprisingly you asked me for honey's name
-chorus-
And her name is me,
And she loves me more than you'll ever know
And I finally see that loving you and loving me
Just don't seem to work at all
So patiently, she's waiting on me to tell you
That she needs love
And to choose between you two, boy you know
If I have to choose, I choose me
-verse-
And she told me to tell you to never to hurt me again
Cuz if you haven't heard she's a bad chick
Even though I haven't been, no
Yet and still you try and test me by raisin' an angry hand
Put it down, put it down
I'm leavin don't try and stop me, (no)
I'm late and she is waiting, (yes)
My love for me is too much so I can't stay
-chorus-
And her name is me,
And she loves me more than you'll ever know
And I finally see that loving you and loving me
Just don't seem to work at all
So patiently, she's waiting on me to tell you
That she needs love
And to choose between you two, boy you know
If I have to choose, I choose
Cuz she's actually formin' a threesome
And I'm happy that I can join them, and
There names are me, myself and I
-chorus-
And her name is me,
She's waiting on me to tell you that she needs love,
Gotta choose between you two, and you knowIf
I have to choose,
I choose me, me, I gotta go with me

"Ya Betta Check Reality!"
I was slapped in the face with a dose reality today! This morning I'm driving to work listening to The Steve Harvey Morning Show (my new fav!), as usual, when this commercial comes on. Now normally I change the station when commercials come on but for some reason I choose to listen this time (and I'm glad I did). So you will never guess what this commercial was advertising (well really advising)...HIV MEDICATION!!!
Can you even believe it?!?! It was two young African-American males infected with HIV discussing their daily medicine routine. The basic message was if you have the virus under control, you might be able to decrease the number of times you have to take your meds a day (instead of twice a day, you can take them once a day).
This was a reality check for me because it shows just how prevalent HIV & AIDS are among African Americans. Think about it! Now there are commercials about HIV between Tylenol & Always advertisements! THIS IS SO NOT OKAY!!! But then again maybe this is the up-front, in-your-face type of approach we need! I know it will make me think twice about sex and protection.
So ladies & gentlemen, think about this commercial next time you're preparing to do the do! Protect your partner and (more importantly) yourself! If he/she isn't willing to use protection LET IT GO! It's not that crucial! Love yourself more than you love the feeling! Let's not allow this virus to take us out! Let's not make anymore excuses! We know it's out there and it's up to us to protect ourselves and each other! Go to the nearest drug store, the nurse's office on campus, or even the free clinic and WRAP IT UP!!! GET TESTED!!!

P.S. On a lighter note, do you know what song the title of this post came from? Think about it. Still stuck? It's from T.I.'s I'm Straight on his King cd featuring B.G. & Jeezy!
